Jeanne Beck’s Gallery Show in Adirondacks

This happy smiling person is JEANNE RAFFER BECK.  I met Jeanne last weekend during my trip to visit artists Judith and Stan Plotner at their rustic and marvelous home in the Adirondack wilderness.  We three drove north to the tiny town of Blue Mountain Lake where The Art Center featured Jeanne’s recent and cutting edge fiber art in an exhibit entitled “Entwining Alphabets. ”  Beautifully hung, Jeanne’s sculptural and 2-D works absolutely SHINE against the chocoloate brown walls of the center’s showcase gallery.

I’ve been a fan of Jeanne’s work for the last five years and have seen her style change dramatically from an organic style to her recent graphic style incorporating iconic symbols and a stark color palette.  Her recent work is more sculptural in form and she utilizes new fibers and techniques that invite close visual inspection and intellectual introspection.

This is a detail of the work shown in the first photo.  The white fiber is whiter than my camera has captured, to the eye it is crisp and fresh and interesting.

The diptych (two long panels) was enhanced by the chocolate upper wall contrasted by the white wainscoting below.  Serendipitous!

I thought I had many more photos, especially one showing the entire room but when I get talking and seeing, I forget to snap away!   Above are three small works in Jeanne’s new signature style.  Stunning and mysterious!  Thanks, Jeanne, for a GREAT SHOW, it was well worth the trip and I so enjoyed meeting you and seeing your glorious works in person!

The photos below were shot at Judith and Stan Plotner’s magnificent home, which they have built over the last twenty years from a handy-man’s special to a comfortable, spacious and artsy residential retreat!  I loved this shed (one of many on their huge property which has it’s own fresh water pond), the clapboards are called something special which escapes me at the moment, but they are of native Adirondack trees and OOZE rustic flavor.

And YES, that is me in the KAYAK!  My FIRST kayak experience!  That is Judith on a raft in the background.  The water is CRYSTAL CLEAR and rapid-free.  Stan had to pull me out of the kayak and I’ve decided I will stick to canoeing…much easier on my back and wrists.  I’m assured that I’m welcome for a return visit and I will intentionally take MORE PHOTOS! Thanks again, Judith and Stan
