VISIONS 2010 – Gallery and Opening

Still walking on air from my trip across country to San Diego and Oceanside, KAL-IF-OR-NI-AY, to attend the VISIONS 2010 Opening Reception on 10/23 at the Oceanside Museum of Art.  KUDOS and many thanks to the JURORS (Linda Colsh, Penny McMorris, and Jason T. Busch) and to Visions President Charlotte Bird and the working and volunteer staff of Visions Gallery and Oceanside Museum of Art (so many dedicated individuals!) for putting together one of the most memorable art quilt exhibits in our short history!

More than half of the exhibiting artists were in attendance and we all agreed that every single piece belonged in this fabulous exhibit, it was hung PAR EXCELLENCE and the artists were greeted and treated like singular celebrities.  The two days of festivities included a preview cocktail party and the opening reception on Friday evening, followed on Saturday by a catered breakfast for the artists to socialize and sign the EXCELLENT EXHIBIT CATALOG, and an afternoon panel discussion moderated by Judith Content, entitled “Balancing Act, The Art of Being an Artist” featuring panelists Deidre Adams, Gloria Hansen, Jane LaFazio and Katie Pasquini Masopist.  At the end of day, no one wanted to leave…..

I try to photo views of the hung exhibit rather than the individual works of art.  I HIGHLY RECOMMEND purchasing the excellent catalog, all the works were professionally photographed by Eric Nancarrow whose attention to detail and to show our works to their best advantage in photography is gratefully appreciated.

We will start with a few views of the opening reception and the fabulously modern and comfortable Oceanside Museum.

Oceanside Museum of Art

During the OPENING RECEPTION - balmy evening

The front windows of the museum open onto the large veranda so there was plenty of space for the HUGE CROWD of people who attended the opening and the awards ceremony.  My darling friend Judith Plotner was the honored and excited recipient of the coveted President’s Award bestowed by artist and President of Visions, Charlotte Bird.  Unfortunately, this photographer couldn’t get close enough to shoot a photo of Judith receiving her award, sorry (or of the other awards, more sorry).

What follows are shots of all the works in the show AS THEY ARE HUNG, my intention was NOT to show individual quilts, some photos are obviously better than others, I had only a few minutes to do this before the crowds started pouring in, so my apologies if I short changed anyone….not intentional, I assure you.  Captions show artists names of works from left to right, redundancies are intentional to show the marvelous gallery space within which our work was exhibited.

Alas, my efforts to shoot art exhibits never turns out perfect….I missed several works:  Deidre Adams, Linda Beach, and Martha Warshaw.   I have NO idea what happened, but I was probably interrupted and lost my way in the maze of exhibit space.  (Deidre,Linda and Martha, please accept my sincere apology.)
